Avast Business CloudCare
Avast Business CloudCare is an anti-virus solution, which is cloud based and automatically updates itself on all devices where it’s installed, as long as you have a valid internet connection.
The software also uses real-time heuristics (real-time scanning of files) to scan for nasties as well as using regularly updated virus database definitions. All definitions are automatically updated to all clients without any user intervention required.
In addition to the above you also get the below ‘out the box’ with our Avast Business CloudCare Anti-Virus:
- Web Shield – This actively scans data that is processed when browsing the web and any downloaded files, cookies, and so on, are scanned for infections before infected your computer
- Behaviour Shield – This monitors processes on a computer and any suspicious behaviour that is outside the ‘norm’ will be picked up.
- Sandbox – This allows users to open files, folders, or applications in a special quarantine area of their computer. Ideal if a user is not sure of the validity of the app or file, they can check the item it within this quarantine area first before allowing it to install, download, or be placed onto their computer

ThreatLocker
Whilst similar to Anti Virus this is ‘Zero trust’ software. Once installed this software works on the basis that processes , programs and users have ZERO TRUST by default and through the application of policies and rules we ‘unblock/allow’ only what is needed.
Whilst ThreatLocker can actually do the job of the Anti Virus consider this more of an extra layer to Cyber Security. The way I think of it is Anti-Virus is traditionally the ‘bouncer’ that says who/what can come in and what can’t and ThreatLocker is what actually checks you are complying with rules. Bad analogy but hopefully you get the idea!
With ThreatLocker you can use very fine granular control over every app and bit of data on your computer. So, for example with ThreatLocker you can prevent users from accessing USB memory sticks or you could only allow certain apps to be able to be able to access certain folders etc.
For example, you might have a company Dropbox on your computer so you can setup a ThreatLocker policy that stops uses from copying data away from Dropbox but will allow data to be saved to Dropbox etc.
