Your Questions Answered
Here are our most asked questions about our broadband services.
What is business broadband?
Business broadband is a dedicated broadband connection and can be used in professional environments such as offices, to support the larger demand for internet. Business broadband offers faster download and upload speeds, larger data capacity and more stable and secure connections. Businesses will also get an increased bandwidth, which is useful for running large applications that require a high bandwidth and can’t operate correctly on low bandwidth connections.
What do I need from my business broadband?
A slow connection will cost your business time and money whilst also impacting productivity. Fast download and upload speeds allows for your business to remain productive at all times.
Usage is the next factor that you want to consider. You don’t want to be held back by how much data you can download as this will impact business operations and productivity, selecting a package that covers all of your download and upload requirements will provide no technical issues.
Finally, having on hand support is important to help your business when an issue arises. This allows for the broadband problem to be quickly dealt with, allowing your business to get back up and running.
What is static IP, and do I need it?
A static IP address is an internet address that doesn’t change. This is useful for businesses that offer web-based services, so your clients know who and where you are when connecting remotely or hosting.
Why is fast internet important for my business?
Fast internet isn’t just for convenience. Having a reliable connection with fast speeds can reduce significant downtime that could cost your business a lot of money. Having fast speeds can also increase productivity among your staff instead of waiting to download documents or endure slow loading pages.
Why is a stable connection important?
A strong, stable internet connection allows for your business to operate seamlessly and removes the unnecessary downtime that your business may face with an unstable connection.
I only want broadband, do I need a phone line?
Absolutely not. With the 2025 PSTN switch-off, traditional PSTN lines with broadband layered over the top are being replaced with SOGEA (Single Order Gateway Ethernet Access), which is a “broadband only” internet connection without a phone line.
If you have an existing broadband connection which uses a PSTN line this will need to be converted to a SOGEA connection before the ISDN/PSTN network is switched off. Of course, if you would like to keep your current phone number, we can help you with this by porting your current number across to our hosted VoIP service.
How long will it take to switch?
We want to ensure you’re up and running as quickly as possible! But we also want to be transparent about migration processes. It’s good to know that the typical install time for ADSL, FTTC, FTTP (Openreach) is 10-14 working days.
- For Ultrafast (Faster Britain) you should expect an installation time of 20-30days.
- For leased lines, depending on your location, installation time is typically around 1-3 months.
