The rumours have been flying about for a while but Microsoft have kept quiet, they famously said that Windows 10 would be it but they have reverted to type and now announced the imminent arrival of Windows 11.
Its not being released to the wider world yet so we cannot confirm all of the features but below is our pick of the confirmed features that we think make Windows 11 a very tempting prospect.
Its FREE to upgrade!
Much like with Windows 10 if you already have a licensed version of Windows 10 then assuming you have the computer resources to accommodate Windows 11 you can upgrade for free. A caveat is you will need a Microsoft account to upgrade (even if you are running traditional offline accounts) – Microsoft accounts are free to setup so no biggie!
Its not been announced yet the minimum spec requirements for Windows 11 but we would confidently guess that if you are able to run Windows 10 without issue then you will be fine to upgrade to Windows 11
Updates are smaller and run in the background
A common complaint about Windows going all the way back to Windows 7 was the constant notifications and pop ups about ‘available updates’ and then log reboot times whilst those updates were applied – Typically this is when you just needed to log on and check something !
Windows 11 promises to keep updates 40% smaller and focus on background installation (i.e. without bothering the user).
Android apps run on Windows 11!
This is a big one, Android apps can now run on Windows 11 and are discoverable from the Microsoft store so if you fancy a bit of Candy Crush or a bit of Tik Tok then its ready to go
Visual changes
Windows 11 is bringing a new cleaner aesthetic so think less clutter and a simpler layout. Some enhanced features like having multiple independent desktop screens and split view further enhances the visual appeal of Windows 11.
When is it released?
Most sources suggest around Nov 2021, We will get our hands on a evaluation copy as soon as available and report back with a full in-depth review of all the new features. Watch this space…
